Call for Applications and Nominations to Serve on ASHG Committees

2027 committee service applications are open through December 12, 2025.

What’s on the application/nomination form?

The following information is required to complete the application/nomination form:

Application/Self-nominations:

  • Basic information, including your name, email, institution, highest degree earned, & membership type (trainee or non-trainee)
  • Curriculum vitae (CV) or NIH biosketch
  • Relevant experience, expertise, & ASHG volunteer experience (150 words max each)
    • Relevant experience to serve on the selected committee, excluding activities related to ASHG 
    • Expertise that aligns with the committee's charges (e.g., advocacy, precision medicine, genetic counseling, bioinformatics, community engagement, etc.)
    • Volunteer experience with ASHG (e.g., committee/working group service, abstract review, DNA Day Essay Contest judging, etc.).
  • Open response question(s) specific to the committee for which you are applying (questions vary by committee)

Nominating a colleague: 

  • Basic information, including the nominee's name, email, institution, highest degree earned, & membership type (trainee or non-trainee)
  • Open response question(s) specific to the committee for which you are applying
  • Nominee's relevant experience, expertise, & ASHG volunteer experience (150 words max each)
    • Relevant experience to serve on the selected committee, excluding activities related to ASHG 
    • Expertise that aligns with the committee's charges (e.g., advocacy, precision medicine, genetic counseling, bioinformatics, community engagement, etc.)
    • Volunteer experience with ASHG (e.g., committee/working group service, abstract review, DNA Day Essay Contest judging, etc.).
  • Reference details for trainee nominees (name, institution, and email)  

You may begin the application form, save and exit, and complete the form any time before the deadline.

Candidate Review Process

After the submission deadline, the ASHG Nominating Committee reviews all the nominations with extensive input from committee chairs to finalize committee appointments, which the ASHG Executive Committee ultimately approves. Nominees will be notified of the status of their application in spring 2026.

ASHG strongly encourages applications (self-nominations) in addition to the nomination of colleagues.

Qualifications:

  • Current 2026 ASHG membership (both applicants and nominators)
  • Leadership and volunteer experience on boards and committees are a plus, but not required
  • Knowledge of ASHG’s mission, purpose, goals, policies, programs, services, strengths, and needs
  • Ability to meet tight deadlines
  • Good oral and written communication skills

You must log in to your ASHG Portal account to access the submission form. This is the same login if you have recently joined/renewed as an ASHG member. If you forgot your password, reset your ASHG Portal password. Upon login, you will be asked to give the nomination system permission to access your ASHG account information.
